BEFORE DOWNLOADING CakeTalking: System Requirements and Important Information

• VERY IMPORTANT: Before installing CakeTalking 8.8 Occasionally, if the Windows User Account Control feature (UAC) is turned on, it will actually cause CakeTalking and SONAR to not function properly. If the latter happens, CakeTalking will tell you to turn off UAC. See detailed instructions below.
• Also VERY IMPORTANT: CakeTalking now works with both the 32-bit version of SONAR and the 64-bit version as well. So you can now install either the 32-bit version of SONAR or the 64-bit version. The same version of CakeTalking works with both versions of SONAR.
• CakeTalking 8.8 will only run under Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
• If you have Windows 7, CakeTalking 8.8 is compatible with JAWS 11 through JAWS 16. But if you have Vista or XP, CakeTalking 8.8 is compatible with JAWS versions 7.10 through JAWS 14. You can order a JAWS upgrade or order a new unit of JAWS.

Important Steps to Take Before installing SONAR and CakeTalking

• Before installing CakeTalking SONAR and CakeTalking Before installing CakeTalking 8.8 for SONAR 8.5 under Windows7 or Vista, you may wish to disable User Account Control (UAC). However, with this version of CakeTalking, it is not mandatory that you do so. Should you decide to disable UAC, we strongly recommend that you first install a reliable antivirus program such as Microsoft Security Essentials which is free.
  • Turning user Account Control Off in Windows7: Open the User Accounts Control Center Window. The Keyword to type in the Start Menu's search box is, "UAC". Set the Notify slider to, "Never Notify" or 0.
  • Turning user Account Control Off in Windows Vista: In Control Panel, User Accounts dialog, TAB to the item named, Turn User Account Control On or Off. Press SPACE, thenTAB to the checkbox called, Use User Account Control (UAC) to protect your computer. Uncheck it. User Account Control must be turned off for optimum JAWS performance.
• Install any software required to operate your high-end audio interface such as the Roland Quad-Capture according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

• Install software required to operate any other hardware peripherals such as the Behringer BCF2000 control surface according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Install SONAR: Read Instructions for installing SONAR

  If you have not yet installed SONAR, or have installed an update patch to SONAR, you must run SONAR at least once before installing CakeTalking. This document will instruct you how to install SONAR from your SONAR CD or DVD without sighted assistance.

• If you are a JAWS user or just someone who wants detailed instructions on how to apply required upgrades to SONAR 8.5, read How to Update SONAR 8.5 to SONAR 8.5.3 document. Otherwise, continue to next step.
• You must have SONAR 8.5.3 installed to use CakeTalking 8.8. SONAR 8.5.3 is a no-cost update for SONAR 8.5 customers. Before running 8.5.3, you may need to run the update to bring your version up to SONAR 8.5.2 first. See link provided on the SONAR 8.5.3 update page.
• Now you are ready to download and install CakeTalking from the link below. After installing CakeTalking, follow instructions in the CakeTalking 1 Settings document for your version of Windows which you will find in CakeTalking's Setup folder.
