CakeTalking for Sonar FAQ

CakeTalking 4 for SONAR 4 requires that you run SONAR 4.0.2 which is a free, downloadable upgrade for registered SONAR 4 customers.
Instructions for installing SONAR
You must be using JAWS version 5.10, 6, 6.1 or 6.2. Many customers have reported success with JAWS 7 but we are not officially supporting this version of JAWS. By the way, if you want to purchase or upgrade JAWS for Windows, Dancing Dots is authorized to sell it to you. In fact, Dancing Dots represents not only Freedom Scientific, but most of the major manufacturers of assistive technology and music supplies.

You must use an English keyboard layout and an English version of SONAR.
Even if you use CakeTalking on a laptop PC you must set the JAWS Keyboard Layout to "Desktop"( JAWS / Opttions/Basics/Use Keyboard Layout).
For best results when using CakeTalking on your laptop, Dancing Dots strongly recommends that you use a full-size PC keyboard as many important CakeTalking functions are controlled by keystrokes from the num-pad. USB or wireless PC keyboards are relatively inexpensive. some customers have had success with auxiliary num-pad attachments but others have not.

To install CakeTalking 4 into an upsupported version of JAWS you must click on the Options button in the Welcome dialog, enter the version number ('6.20' for example) in the Search for additional JAWS version field, click on the OK button and then finish the installation as usual.
The latest version of CakeTalking is 4.0.3. To check on the Internet for the latest version, go to the Start menu and click on Programs | CakeTalking 4.0 for SONAR | CakeTalking Internet Update.
