There are two fixes listed here for making JAWS use a certain sound card but we really feel that the first one is a better solution because once you take the time to execute the fix, you won't have to think about it again until you upgrade JAWS.

I have two sound cards on my computer. How do I make sure JAWS uses the one I want? (04/04/2003)
On computers with multiple sound cards, if Automatically Start JAWS is set, JAWS uses the first installed sound card.(09/25/2002)
